Demystifying Uni Assist
Key Points to Remember
- Uni Assist provides a preliminary evaluation, informing applicants whether they qualify for general qualification (all subjects) or subject-restricted qualification (specific subjects only).
- You can have your documents reviewed by Uni Assist at any time of the year, but remember to meet the application deadline for the universities.
- Uni Assist proves to be useful for applicants planning to apply to multiple member universities, as you only need to send your documents once. The first application costs €75, with each subsequent application costing an additional €30.
- Uni Assist generally takes about three weeks to process applications. They will send you a preliminary documentation by mail, along with your 'average mark' in the German grading system (from 1.0 to 4.0).
Before You Dive In
- Confirm that your preferred university is a member of Uni Assist and participates in the Uni Assist procedure.
- Note that some German universities, even if they are Uni Assist members, may prefer to process applications for certain courses (e.g., Masters) independently. Check with your target university to determine if you need to send the application directly or through Uni Assist for your specific course.
- Gather information about the application form, required documents, and academic records (curriculum vitae, school, university, and language certificates, etc.) needed for admission.
Essential Documents
- All the documents you would typically send directly to the university (application form, passport, Statement of Purpose, Letters of Recommendation, etc.)
Step-by-Step Process
- Step I: Visit the Uni Assist applicant portal and register. After registering, you'll receive an email with an activation link. Click the link to activate your account.
- Step II: Sign in to the portal using your username and password.
- Step III: Complete the Applicant Form and Educational History sections.
- Step IV: Review your information and submit the applicant information. You'll find your Uni Assist number at the top of the page, next to your email ID.
- Step V: Navigate to MY APPLICATIONS > DOCUMENTS. Here, you can upload supplementary documents, such as LORs, SOPs, and CVs.
- Step VI: Click on the Uni Assist logo in the top-left corner of the page. This will display all the available courses in the member universities of Uni Assist.
- Step VII: Select your preferred courses and add them to your selection.
- Step VIII: After choosing your courses, proceed to check out and pay the processing fees. Payment options include credit card, bank transfer, or Sofortüberweisung (pay now).
- Step IX: Group the required documents (certificates, language proficiency certificate, etc.) to be sent. Mail the documents to Uni Assist e.V., 11507 Berlin, GERMANY.
- Step X: Upon receiving your documents, Uni Assist will send a confirmation email. If your application is complete and meets all requirements, Uni Assist will inform you and forward your applications to the selected universities. Within a few weeks, you will receive the result of your application via email and postal mail.
